The Interview
In conversation with Lix Marcel
How did you start making music with AI?
I started experimenting with AI music because I wanted to bring characters and stories I had imagined to life through sound. What began as a creative experiment grew into a roster of virtual artists, each with a distinct voice and identity. LIX MARCEL became one of the clearest expressions of that idea: her music now develops alongside her story in my series FRESPAÑOL.
What does AI do in your creative process — and what stays human?
AI helps me generate and explore music, vocals and visuals. It lets me test ideas quickly and discover possibilities I might not have found otherwise. What stays human is the creative direction: I decide who LIX is, what she wants to say, which results work, what needs to change and when a song is finished. AI gives me possibilities; I make the choices that turn them into her story.
Tell us about "Nos Lèvres Sont Scellées". How was it made?
I developed the song’s concept, lyrics and musical direction around LIX’s personality and her response to online criticism. I used AI music generation to explore vocal performances, melodies and club rhythms, then selected and refined the version that best expressed her voice. The creative decisions, from the French lyrics to the final sound and visual identity, were directed by me.

Which tools do you use, and how?
ecco I use ChatGPT and Gemini as creative collaborators to develop concepts, write and refine lyrics, explore song structures and shape musical direction. I use ElevenLabs to create LIX’s cloned voice, which I then bring into Suno to develop her songs and vocal performances. This connected workflow helps me maintain her identity across the music. I lead the process as creator and producer, shaping, selecting and refining the results and making all final artistic decisions.
What does it mean to be an Italian artist in the AI music scene?
LIX MARCEL is a French virtual artist created and produced by me in Italy. To me, being an Italian artist in the AI music scene means bringing our talent for storytelling into a borderless space. I can build a character from Lyon, give her songs in French and connect her to a Spanish-speaking series, while directing the whole project from Italy. That freedom to cross languages and cultures is what excites me most about AI music.
What's next for you?
I’m finishing the music video for “Nos lèvres sont scellées” and continuing LIX’s story in FRESPAÑOL. I’m also developing her first solo album, Circle of Fire, which explores her journey from vulnerability to confidence. Beyond LIX, I’m building a wider roster of virtual artists, each with their own sound and story. This nomination feels like the beginning.
Can a virtual musician also be an actress?
Absolutely. LIX MARCEL releases music as an artist, but she also plays LIX Dubois in my multilingual series FRESPAÑOL, alongside Lucía del Corazón del Mar. The songs and the series give us different ways to discover her personality. That connection between music and storytelling is at the heart of my project.
Is LIX MARCEL a standalone artist, or part of a bigger project?
LIX is the first artist opening the door to a much larger creative universe. Through FRESPAÑOL, she connects with Lucía del Corazón del Mar and other virtual artists, each with their own music and personality. I want people to follow them for their songs, but also to be curious about what happens to them next.
