The Interview
In conversation with Tancredi Blu
How did you start making music with AI?
I started making music with AI out of curiosity about how technology could open new creative possibilities. I wanted to explore the relationship between Italian songwriting, poetry and contemporary sounds, bringing literary influences into a modern musical context. AI became a tool to experiment with melodies, arrangements and different sonic identities, turning ideas into songs that might otherwise have remained on paper. The process is a constant dialogue between human creativity and technology, guided by my own artistic vision and musical references. Tancredi Blu was born from this exploration: a virtual artist with a distinctly Italian identity, somewhere between tradition and experimentation.
What does AI do in your creative process — and what stays human?
AI helps me turn ideas into music, exploring melodies, vocals, arrangements and sounds that I might not have imagined on my own. But the starting point is always human: the lyrics I write, the emotions I want to express, the references that inspire me and the artistic choices that shape each song. I guide the process through experimentation, prompts and repeated refinements, deciding what feels right and what belongs to my vision. For me, AI is a creative instrument, not a substitute for creativity. It can generate possibilities, but the meaning behind a song, the intention and the desire to connect with someone through music remain human.
Tell us about "Dove Ci Nascondeva Maggio". How was it made?
The track started with lyrics I wrote myself and a melody I had in mind for the chorus. I wanted to give the song a clear identity, combining the Italian singer-songwriter tradition with a contemporary sound. I hummed the chorus to establish its melodic direction, using that initial idea as the foundation for the song. The AI then interpreted the reference and developed it into a complete track, expanding the original concept into a finished musical piece. For me, the most interesting part of this process is the balance between intention and interpretation: starting with something personal and seeing how it evolves into a musical form I could not have predicted entirely. The result reflects my songwriting choices while exploring new creative possibilities through AI.

Which tools do you use, and how?
I primarily use Suno to transform my ideas into complete musical productions. I write the lyrics, define the musical direction and develop the arrangement through melodies, hummed vocal ideas and detailed prompts describing the sound, instrumentation, mood and structure I want to achieve. Suno generates the vocals, instrumentation and production, allowing me to experiment with different interpretations until the result matches my artistic vision. I approach it as a creative instrument rather than an automatic songwriting solution: the concepts, lyrics and key artistic decisions remain mine, while AI helps bring them to life.
What does it mean to be an Italian artist in the AI music scene?
Being an Italian artist in the AI music scene means being part of a new and constantly evolving movement, where creativity and technology meet new forms of artistic expression. It also means facing the challenge of helping people understand that AI music is not simply about pressing a button, but involves ideas, experimentation, artistic choices and a great deal of work. In a country with such a strong musical and songwriting tradition, exploring this new territory comes with both opportunities and conflicting opinions. I believe the real challenge is to go beyond the debate about the technology itself and focus on what music can communicate. For me, the goal is to create something that moves people, sparks curiosity and conveys genuine emotions. The tools may be new, but the search for an identity and a connection with the listener remains at the heart of making music.
What's next for you?
My next step is to release an EP by the end of this year, revisiting poems from the Italian literary tradition through contemporary sounds and AI-driven production. It is a way to connect Italy's literary heritage with new forms of musical expression. At the same time, I am developing my first full-length album, planned for mid-2027. This project will be more personal, built around my own lyrics, experiences and perspective on life. While the EP looks back to the words of great Italian poets, the album will focus on my own voice and stories. These two projects represent different sides of Tancredi Blu: the dialogue between literary tradition and technological experimentation, and the search for a more direct, personal artistic identity. I see them as important steps in defining who I am as an artist and what I want my music to become.
Why did you choose the name “Blu” for your virtual artist?
It represents a mood, a feeling, a place where melancholy and serenity coexist. It reminds me of the sea at dusk, the endless sky, the silence of the night and the peace that comes when everything slows down. There is something bittersweet about blue: it can feel lonely, nostalgic and introspective, yet also comforting and full of hope. I wanted a name that could capture these emotions and reflect the atmosphere of my music. Blu is a little world of its own, suspended between reality and imagination, sadness and peace, dreams and memories. It is the colour of the feelings that are sometimes difficult to explain, but easy to find in a song.
