The Interview

In conversation with Black Pearl Studio

How did you start making music with AI?

I started making music long before AI came along. I used Cubase on my PC with a MIDI keyboard, and later moved to GarageBand on my iPad. Music was always something I wanted to explore, but finding the time to do everything on my own was not always easy. When I discovered AI music tools like Suno, I became curious. I started experimenting with ideas, sounds and styles I had in my head but couldn't always turn into finished tracks on my own. For me, AI became a way to give those ideas a voice. I work on the lyrics, develop the musical direction, write detailed prompts and experiment until the result feels right. I enjoy mixing different influences and exploring sounds that don't fit into just one genre. Every track starts with an idea or a feeling I want to express. AI helps me turn it into something I can actually hear, shape and share with other people. That's what keeps me creating

What does AI do in your creative process — and what stays human?

AI helps me turn ideas into something I can hear. It allows me to explore sounds, styles and arrangements that would be difficult for me to create on my own, and to experiment with musical directions I might not have considered. I use ChatGPT to develop lyrics and refine ideas, and Suno to explore how those ideas can become complete tracks. I guide the process, try different approaches and keep working until the result feels right. What stays human is the reason behind the music: the emotions, the ideas, the words I choose, the sounds I want to explore and the decisions I make along the way. AI can generate possibilities, but I decide which ones express what I have in mind. For me, AI doesn't replace creativity. It gives me another way to express it.

Tell us about "Silver Season". How was it made?

Silver Season was born from the idea of capturing a moment you wish could last a little longer. I wanted it to feel nostalgic but still bright, energetic and full of life. I used Suno to explore a mix of indie pop, dance-rock and subtle new wave influences. I was looking for driving drums, melodic bass, bright guitars and shimmering synths, with a natural and expressive male vocal. I worked on the lyrics to create small, vivid images rather than tell a story too directly. Lines like “You wore the daylight like a borrowed coat” and “Leave your fingerprints across the water” helped shape the atmosphere. I refined the lyrics and musical prompts until the sound matched the feeling I wanted to express. For me, AI is a tool to explore ideas and bring them to life, but the creative direction and the choices behind the track are mine. Silver Season is about those fleeting moments that stay with us long after they're gone.

“No fixed genre, just ideas worth hearing”

Which tools do you use, and how?

My main tools are ChatGPT and Suno, and I use them at different stages of the creative process. I use ChatGPT to develop ideas, work on lyrics, explore different themes and refine lines, rhymes and song structures. I want the words to feel natural and meaningful, so I keep revising them until they match the emotion I want to express. Then I use Suno to bring those ideas to life. I write detailed prompts to guide the genre, instruments, vocals, tempo and overall mood. I experiment with different versions and refine my approach until the music feels right.

What does it mean to be an Italian artist in the AI music scene?

Being an Italian artist in the AI music scene means having the freedom to create beyond borders, languages and traditional genres. Italy has a rich musical heritage, but I believe we should also look forward and explore new ways of making music. With Black Pearl Studio, I experiment with different sounds, styles and emotions, without wanting to fit into just one category. AI allows me to explore ideas that might otherwise remain in my imagination and share them with an international audience. For me, being Italian is part of who I am, but it doesn't define the limits of what I can create. What matters most is having something personal to express and finding the right way to bring it to life. AI music is still a new and evolving scene, and I see it as an opportunity to be curious, challenge conventions and contribute my own perspective to a global creative community.

What's next for you?

What's next for Black Pearl Studio is to keep exploring new sounds, ideas and creative possibilities. I don't want to limit myself to one genre or follow a fixed formula. Every new track is a chance to experiment, learn and discover something different. I'd also like to bring my music to a wider audience and develop songs that can connect with people in different ways. One of my goals is to create demos that could inspire real singers and take on a new life through their voices and interpretations.
