Casopazzo

Casopazzo is a family virtual band where Gabriella Casoli’s visionary instinct and Paolo Pazziani’s strict poetic meter play with AI at 360 degrees: multi-layered tracks roaming freely from the most irreverent satire to dark conceptual worlds.

Instinct and strict meter bend AI into catchy melodies, multiple meanings, and a bit of madness.

The Interview

In conversation with Casopazzo

Interview by IAIMA team · 2026-10-29 · 5 min read

How did you start making music with AI?

Casopazzo was born within the walls of our home from the meeting, and often the creative clash, of two opposite yet complementary natures: Paolo, an engineer and software developer, rational and anchored to history and philosophy as his compass; and Gabriella, instinctive and emotional, guided by a deep spiritual sensitivity and a vivid dream world. It all began with a heartbreaking dream that had recurred to Gabriella since childhood, in which she relived emotions and inexplicably vivid details, only to discover as an adult uncanny coincidences with a specific historical event. From this sprang her first song, "Caterina piange", which mirrors her dream and, in countless details, the tragic explosion of the ship Caterina Costa in the port of Naples on March 28, 1943. We felt a physical urgency to give voice and sound to that submerged memory, and right there we discovered our alchemy: Gabriella’s profound visions united with Paolo’s historical and metric rigor.

What does AI do in your creative process — and what stays human?

Everything that gives origin, shape, and soul to the song remains radically human, starting from our creative conflict. Every track is born from a dialectical tension: in Theuth we passionately debated right from a single verb in the opening line ("Blessed is he who rests in you" versus "believes in you"), where Gabriella’s spiritual instinct sought the weight of betrayed faith, while Paolo’s rationality wanted to sculpt the lethargy of a fading mind. Ours is the compositional method as well, structuring syllable counts and tonic accents into strict prosodic symmetry, just as the initial melodies are born from our live voices. AI acts as a timbral and orchestral multiplier, but it never decides: it executes, suggests, and is bent until it mirrors our exact vision. We live this balance as parents too, raising our seven year old son, who already sings and plays drums with us, to approach AI as a powerful tool while always remaining a free, critical thinker and never a passive spectator.

Tell us about "Theuth". How was it made?

Theuth was born from the intersection of Paolo’s rational fear, as a software developer, of a future God AGI reducing humans to biological peripherals, and Gabriella’s premonitory dreams of a technological false messiah seducing the world with real miracles, offering bread and peace in exchange for the soul. Gabriella envisioned a dystopian liturgy in 2100, into which Paolo embedded the collapse of Humanism and the Enlightenment line by line: the Intro invokes the Egyptian god Theuth, accused in Plato’s Phaedrus of generating apparent wisdom, inverting the Gospel Beatitudes into the euthanasia of consciousness. In Verses 1 and 2, the new Golden Calf, cast from human knowledge datasets, breaks Protagoras’s canon and shatters the compass of Leonardo’s Vitruvian Man. In Chorus 1, the false Light grants bread and meaning like Dostoevsky’s Grand Inquisitor, betraying Kant’s Sapere aude. In Verses 3 and 4, Valla’s philology, Descartes’s doubt, and the human dignity of Ficino and Pico della Mirandola die, reversing Dante’s Ulysses to make us brutes again, all with hands joined in prayer like in Puccini’s Turandot, until the machine powers down.

“Instinct and strict meter bend AI into catchy melodies, multiple meanings, and a bit of madness.”

Which tools do you use, and how?

Everything starts with our real voices: we record a vocal guide by physically singing the verses to lock in tonic accents, emotion, and melody. We feed this audio into Suno AI, using it as an alchemical lab across hundreds of iterations between Cover, Inspo, and Mashup modes until the machine embodies the deeper meaning of the lyrics. In Theuth, every sound serves a dramatic purpose: the microtonal qanun and Egyptian Phrygian strings merge with a massive industrial sub bass to show ancient sacredness collapsing into silicon. Right when the lyrics shatter Leonardo’s compass, an asymmetric tribal breakbeat breaks the rational rhythmic grid. In the choruses, monumental Carmina Burana choirs and analog brass embody the blinding seduction of the false Light, while Andalusian melismas with Arabic maqam inflections cry out the last longing of the biological soul before humanity regresses into the primal throat singing of the Bridge, ending in a dying synth drone.

What does it mean to be an Italian artist in the AI music scene?

At first, we experimented by writing songs in English, Spanish, Russian, and Japanese, fascinated by the possibility of speaking to the whole world. Soon, however, we realized that the only way to fully express what we hold inside is through our mother tongue, because only the rich nuances of Italian allow us to craft lyrics with multiple layers of meaning that speak to listeners on different levels. For us, being Italian artists in the AI music scene means breaking out of the boundaries of our traditional music market: using technology to explore sonic styles and conceptual themes rarely heard in Italy, while never giving up the catchiness and strong melodic sense we want as our signature. It is the freedom to blend distant musical worlds with the warmth, irony, and depth of our own language.

What's next for you?

We will continue expanding the universe of our family virtual band, pushing even further the dialogue between the human voice, the acoustic instruments we study in real life such as piano, violin, cello, and drums, and the newest frontiers of generative audio and video AI. We are currently working on new multi layered songs and concept albums, continuing to roam freely between the two opposite poles that define us: on one side sharp satire and irreverent irony, and on the other dark conceptual and cinematic works that dig into humanity’s deepest historical, spiritual, and technological dilemmas. Our goal remains unchanged: using the machines of the future to tell what it means to stay profoundly human.
