How did you start making music with AI?

I started making music with AI about two years ago, when I discovered Suno and other similar tools. I had given up on the idea of releasing music, since I didn't have the time to go record songs in a professional studio, and I also didn't really like my voice on some tracks I had recorded. Suno brought a voice and life back to the musical ideas that had been bouncing around in my head over the years.ù Very often not even the type beats I listen to on YouTube are perfectly in sync with the song I wrote on top of them, and AI gives me the opportunity to shape the track's sound however I want. Being able to upload something of my own, like a rough recording from my phone but important for letting the machine understand the flow and when to time the words, was the little touch that made me say: ok, I’ll probably be making AI music forever from now on.

What does AI do in your creative process — and what stays human?

What's human is the idea, the lyrics, the flow, the melody, the rhythm, the timing in which the words are delivered. The AI takes care of 'replacing' my voice and mixing it, while keeping the emotions I convey to it. The AI also works on reworking the beat based on how I describe it, so it fits better with how I imagined my song.

Tell us about "Network (Più Di Così)". How was it made?

The track was made on a Type Beat with incomprehensible little voices at the beginning that became what you'll hear, followed by a trap rap beat with 'new jazz' sounds that I turned into a very chill lo-fi boom bap, more suited to how I had the song in my head. I put a lot of emphasis on the flow's cadence and on breaking down the verses, pre-chorus, and chorus. I recorded my voice on my phone with the beat playing in the background from YouTube and fed it to SUNO. It took quite a few generations, a lot of metatag tweaks, and a lot of prompts to get to the final result.

Which tools do you use, and how?

I recorded my voice on my phone with the beat playing in the background from YouTube and fed it to SUNO. It took quite a few generations, a lot of metatag tweaks, and a lot of prompts to get to the final result.

What does it mean to be an Italian artist in the AI music scene?

I feel excluded from the Italian scene I used to be part of (hip hop, trap) and I think AI artists are unfairly criticized because there are many, way too many, bad examples of people using AI in the wrong way and passing it off as art. It reminds me of what happened with Autotune, but on a much bigger scale. There will need to be a selection of really valid projects, but it will take time. I honestly have faith, the future is just around the corner.

What's next for you?

I will keep posting what I enjoy doing at my own pace. Music is what makes me feel good.
